Your account
Delete your account
Your subscription
Deleting your account also cancels any subscription you have. You won’t be charged again, and the current period isn’t refunded.
To cancel without deleting your account: open the Play Store, tap your picture, then Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions, and choose Prodigal. Canceling stops the next payment. You keep what you have paid for until the period you are in runs out.
Two ways to delete your account
In the app
- Open Prodigal and go to Options.
- Open the Account section.
- Choose Delete account.
- You will be asked to type a short word to confirm, so this cannot happen by accident. This cannot be undone.
By email
Write to privacy@theprodigalapp.com from the address your account uses and ask us to delete it. We will complete it within 30 days, and we will write back to tell you when it is done. If the law requires us to keep your information (because of a court order, subpoena or other legal process, to investigate fraud, a security incident or illegal activity, or because of a lawsuit or written claim against us), we pause deleting your account, tell you it is paused, and complete the deletion as soon as the matter ends.
Write from the account’s own address if you can. If you cannot, say so and we will find another way to check the account is yours before we delete anything.
You do not need the app installed, and you do not need to be able to sign in.
What deleting removes
It removes the data we hold on our servers: your profile, your listening history, your sponsor connections, and the record of your agreement to the Terms of Service. It removes your sign-in as well, so the account no longer exists.
It cancels any subscription, as above, and deletes the record our payment processor, RevenueCat, holds about you. RevenueCat may keep that record in its backups for up to 30 days.
It also clears what Prodigal has stored on the device you delete from: your vow, your journal, your Habit Tracking entries, and your saved Moments. If that cannot be finished, because Prodigal is open in another window for example, the app tells you so and asks you to try again rather than leaving you to assume it is gone.
What we cannot remove for you
Your vow, journal, Habit Tracking entries and saved Moments live on your device and are never uploaded to us. That is deliberate, and it means there is no copy on our side to delete, and no way for us to clear another device remotely.
If Prodigal is installed on a device you no longer use, delete your account from that device too, or uninstall the app there, which removes what it stored along with it.
What we keep
We keep a stripped record of each purchase event: what kind of event it was, such as a purchase, renewal or cancellation, the product, and when it happened. It no longer carries your account ID, the store’s order number or the amount, so it cannot be linked back to you. Google keeps its own records of the purchase, under its own privacy policy.
For a short time we keep security records that limit repeated attempts. They hold salted hashes, not readable addresses, and we delete them within 48 hours, or 8 days for email-confirmation links.
If you are stuck
If something above does not match what you see on your phone, or you are not sure which route to use, use our contact form and we will help.
