Terms of service · draft
The terms.
This is an early version of our Terms of Service. We wrote it ourselves, and it has not been reviewed by a lawyer yet.
Effective date: 10/05/2026
Last updated: 10/07/2026
1. Who we are
Prodigal (“Prodigal,” “we,” “us,” “our”) is operated by Prodigal - The Way Back LLC, a Texas limited liability company. These Terms govern your use of the Prodigal website, web app, and Android app (together, the “Service”), available at www.theprodigalapp.com and through Google Play.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use the Service. By using Prodigal, you confirm you meet this requirement. The Service is not directed at anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
3. What Prodigal is, and what it isn’t
Prodigal is an educational and behavioral-support tool. It combines content-blocking features with an audio program adapted from published, peer-reviewed behavioral methods, presented within a Christian framework.
Prodigal is not therapy, counseling, or medical treatment, and using it is not a substitute for care from a licensed counselor, physician, or member of clergy. We do not diagnose, treat, or promise any specific outcome. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline). This resource is always free and is never limited by your subscription status.
4. Your account
You’re responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for all activity under your account. Tell us right away if you believe your account has been accessed without authorization, at support@theprodigalapp.com, or navigate to our Contact Us page on the footer of our marketing site or in the options within the app.
Prodigal operates on a one-account-one-role basis: an account is either a user account or a sponsor/admin account, not both.
5. Subscriptions and billing
Subscriptions are bought inside the Android app through Google Play, which takes the payment. We never receive or store your card details. Stripe is not involved in a subscription: it handles only the separate case where somebody buys sponsorship for another person’s account.
- The Road: $4.99/month
- The Guide: $12.99/month
The Road comes with a 7-day free trial for people who have not subscribed to Prodigal before: if this Google account has ever held either plan, there is no trial and Google charges you from the first day. The Guide has no free trial. Google shows you the terms that apply to you on its own payment screen, before you confirm.
The price Google Play shows you before you confirm is the price you are charged. If the price of a subscription you already have changes, Google Play tells you by email and notification before the new price applies, and may ask you to accept it.
Both plans are billed monthly. There is no one-time purchase and no annual plan.
Monthly subscriptions renew automatically until canceled. You cancel in Google Play rather than here: open the Play Store, tap your picture, then Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions, and choose Prodigal. Canceling stops the next payment and you keep what you have paid for until the period you are in runs out. If a payment fails, Google decides how long the grace period is and we honor whatever it tells us; we do not set a window of our own.
Canceling or a lapsed payment will not disable content-blocking already active on your device. The block runs on the phone itself and never asks about billing. Turning it off is something you do, on your device.
Refunds for a subscription are handled by Google Play under its own refund policy, because Google is the seller. [Anything we offer beyond Google’s own policy is still to be decided: prorated, none, or case-by-case within N days. That is a business call, not a legal one.]
6. Content-blocking features
Prodigal includes optional device-level content-blocking, which on Android is VPN-based filtering of the lookups your phone makes. You control activation and configuration of it. Android always allows the owner of a device to remove these restrictions through system settings, and we do not try to stop that. Prodigal is designed to add meaningful friction and a moment of reflection, not to make removal technically impossible. We do not represent that blocking is unbypassable.
7. Your content
Vow recordings, journal entries, and related reflective content you create are stored locally on your device and are not transmitted to or stored on our servers. We do not have access to this content and cannot recover it for you. The app can make a backup file you keep yourself, from Options. If your phone is lost or broken, that file is the only way to get this content back. If you move to a new phone using your phone’s own transfer tool, Android may also copy this content to the new phone, but we are not part of that transfer and cannot promise it. The backup file goes wherever you send it and never to us.
You retain ownership of anything you create in the app. By using the Service you’re not granting us a license to use your vow, journal, or reflection content, because we never receive it in the first place.
8. Sponsor and admin accounts
If someone sponsors your account, they pay for it and nothing else. They cannot see your session progress, what you have listened to, your vow recordings, your journal entries, or whether you have opened the app at all. None of that is transmitted anywhere a sponsor account could reach it.
9. Acceptable use
You agree not to: use the Service for any unlawful purpose; attempt to circumvent, disable, or interfere with the blocking or security features of the Service for another user’s account; reverse-engineer or resell the Service; or use the Service in a way that could harm minors.
10. Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is.” We do not guarantee that blocking features will prevent access to all objectionable content, that the audio program will produce any particular result, or that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Prodigal - The Way Back LLC will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. [This clause and any liability cap amount need attorney review. This is a placeholder, not a negotiated limit.]
12. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time, from inside the app under Options. How to do it, and what deleting does and does not remove, is at theprodigalapp.com/delete-account. Deleting your account also cancels any subscription you have: you won’t be charged again, and the current period isn’t refunded. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We’ll update the “Last updated” date above; continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the revised Terms.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. [Add venue/jurisdiction and, if you want one, an arbitration clause. Attorney call.]
